Agnes Yemenye Gbekli Memorial Scholarship

A mother's generosity inspires a memorial scholarship

I don't think of all the misery but the beauty that remains. – Anne Frank

My late mother, Madam Agnes Yemenye Gbekli, set an excellent example for me in giving to others. She did so much for others in her lifetime, and one of her favorite sayings was, "The more I give, the more I get"—meaning that she found real personal fulfillment in seeing the impact of her giving on others. My mother's giving focused on primary education—maybe that was her highest priority in giving. My mother had an unwavering belief in the value of primary education. So I targeted my scholarship to Battor students pursuing STEM education.

This scholarship is offered in the memory of Madam Agnes Yemenye Gbekli, who passed away on November 28, 2021, at the age of 84. Agnes became a teacher who dedicated her life to teaching from a young age and was involved in children's development. Agnes leaves behind a legacy of promoting education and putting others' needs before her own. Madam Agnes Yemenye Gbekli was recognized for her abilities to bring about the best in others. Madam Agnes' devotion to helping children succeed in life will be memorialized through the recipient of this scholarship.
